About Mafer

At Mafer we are building an AI data platform for R&D teams in formulation industries: flavors & fragrances, food & beverage, cosmetics, personal care, home care and specialty chemicals. We structure the molecular and formulation data that today lives across instruments, spreadsheets and lab notebooks, and turn it into systems that accelerate analysis, formulation and regulatory work.

We are a small, highly technical team of engineers and scientists, working from our office in Barcelona and backed by tier-1 investors. Everyone here works close to customers: you are either building or selling.

The role

Every client runs Mafer on their own private instance, with their own data, models and integrations. You will own the infrastructure that makes that possible: the pipelines that ingest heterogeneous chemical data, the environments where our models and agents run, and the deployments that reach into each client's stack — cloud, hybrid or on-premise.

This is a senior, hands-on role. You will be the person who decides how we build and run things, and the first one others ask when something needs to be reliable.

What you'll do

• Design, build and operate the core platform infrastructure end to end, as code.
• Build robust pipelines for complex scientific data: instrument outputs in proprietary formats, formulation records, documents.
• Own client deployments and integrations, including on-premise and air-gapped environments where the data cannot leave the building.
• Run the training and inference infrastructure, including our GPU work with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's AI Factory.
• Set the bar for security, reliability and developer experience, and keep it as the team grows.

What we look for

• 5–10 years building and operating production infrastructure, with real ownership of what you shipped.
• Deep cloud and infrastructure-as-code experience (AWS, Terraform, containers, CI/CD), and Postgres at scale.
• Strong Python: you write the tooling and the pipelines yourself, not just the YAML around them.
• A security posture that holds up in front of an enterprise IT department — you have answered their questionnaires before.
• A scientific mindset and intellectual curiosity: you enjoy digging into technical problems, reading papers and applying them.
• Comfortable facing customers, fluent in Spanish and English. Everyone here is a Forward Deployed Engineer.

Nice to have

• On-premise or air-gapped deployments inside industrial companies.
• ML infrastructure: GPU scheduling, training pipelines, model serving.
• Compliance work (ISO 27001, SOC 2) in a small team.
